Dear readers, after a long gap, I am back with a very complicated, huge and vast topic which cannot be written away in just 2-3 paragraphs (But I will try my best). In today’s era, there are plenty of electronic devices on which we rely upon. Let me put few thoughts inside your mind by writing about a very popular device without which we cannot imagine our life. Any guesses? Most of you are reading this blog using it!! Yes, it is mobile phone 🙂 . Mobile is one such topic where one cannot have a rational opinion about its existence. So, I just want to express my views about it and I have no intention of manipulating or altering your views about it.
Let us rewind our memories to the time where life was simple and we had a square telephone box at home which was meant only for communication purpose. Whenever the phone used to go Tring tring, we used to get excited to pick the phone to know who was calling. We used to spend quality time with our family and friends. 🙂 There was more interaction among people. Our memory power was good back then as we had to remember every single thing like birthday’s, grocery list, dates of important functions to attend etc etc. Real games were played in those days which used to be kind of exercise for the body. As years passed, with the invention of Mobile phones, people started becoming robots. Initially simple mobiles were introduced in which we had only calling facility, simple calculator and easy games. Today’s generation cannot even survive for 1 hr if given a chance to go back to old days. We are totally influenced by mobiles. 😮
Like in any company, how the automation tools are replacing employees, in the same way mobiles have started eating out jobs of many applications. There are no more cameras as we have mobiles with high pixels, no tape-recorder or radio, watches are worn just for fashion, calendars are hanged in home for namesake, if a postman comes to your home then sure he has brought your passport and not letters, alarm clocks have become extinct, our wallets are lighter than before as we carry cards in wallet and paytm in mobile, we can see very less internet centers as everything we need is just a finger click away, no need to walk till door to know what’s going on in nation (to collect newspaper) as we get news on our bed itself and how can we forget about the most entertaining device of those days, TV, which is now only watched by housewives and old people for serials. (No offence, just example). I leave you here with the examples and you can also think of any other apps or devices whose job mobiles are eating out. 😦
I don’t want to judge if this is good or bad, it is up to every individual to decide but I want to share my thoughts about mobile era before it ends 😛 (now it’s all about ioT, AI etc). I have seen many people who deeply indulge themselves into Mobile so much that they don’t get what’s happening around. It may be that they are addicted to games or Twitter or FB or snapchat etc. Even I have crossed these paths, but luckily I am not the same now. Let me give few examples as to how much a mobile has impacted our life. Once me and my brother were walking to office and as soon as we entered the main gate, my brother saw his teammate coming in the opposite direction. My brother called out to him twice as he did not listen for the first time, but his head was down busy looking at mobile that he didn’t even notice us and passed just beside us with 2 inch distance. I cannot comment anything because I don’t know what had kept him so busy in mobile, it might be something important, but how can you walk for about 150m without looking up or the road!! I thought this is how we are moving away from reality.
I have even observed that when we go to meet our friends, at least 2 persons among them (could be you too) will be busy in their phone chatting with others or busy in FB/twitter etc. My Point is if you wanted to chat with your other friends (in WhatsApp) or wanted to be busy in mobile, then what is the point in meeting your friends? Suppose you meet your school friends and someone is busy chatting with their college friends on WhatsApp, the same person when meets his college friends, will chat with his school friends on WhatsApp. And it’s not like they are not interested, but it’s a habit of always being connected virtually. We are more comfortable in mobile nowadays than facing each other in person. We have no words to talk in person but we have hours to talk virtually. Even when we go out for trip or party, all the excitement for few people will be about posting photos in instagram or any other social app rather than meeting friends or spending time together. Also, these are used as escape weapons when the situation or environment becomes awkward around them, if nobody has anything to say, get busy in your mobile. I feel sad whenever I see group of people, may be in restaurant or at family gatherings or anywhere, sitting together but busy in their mobiles. Spend quality time with whom you meet as you never know when you will meet them again or you might never meet them too. Nowadays even 1 yr old infant is given mobile as a toy. We inculcate these habit into them and when they grow up we blame them for being on mobile all the time! Such an irony!!
I agree that after the invention of these phones, our life has become easy and it had made few good impact on our lives like easily able to talk to abroad relative, guiding us in reaching our destination without taking wrong routes, keeps us always connected with our loved ones, no need to search for ATM’s or have cash all the time etc etc. So it is up to an individual as to how he/she chooses to utilizes it.
So, in short I want to say that, feed yourself to a living thing rather than a non living thing. Because that living thing will remember you till they die but the non living thing will be buried with you. Value emotions and not emoticons. 😎
